Gabbro is an intriguing and architectural delight, slowly revealing itself as one makes their way throughout the residence. The center of attention is of course the well, artfully restored, now with a stair that descends to a wine cellar. Above is an soaring, open two-story space that leads, via free-standing spiral stair, to the master bedroom. Art niches surround the space, which divides master bedroom suite from the bath. Up yet another level is a tower guest suite with its own fireplace, luxurious bath and in every direction, captivating views of olive groves and Tuscan countryside.
On the main level the primary residence wraps from the kitchen and dining area and turns to a long, open living area with exposed stone walls subtly sectioned off by arched doorways and windows. Three sets of magnificent hardwood doors open onto the pergola for dining in the spring, summer and fall. The original forno is adjacent to create a warm and intimate dining experience.
Like all of the Castello residences, interiors are warmed by traditional Tuscan style fireplaces. In the kitchen are a hand-carved marble sink, DeManincor gas and wood-burning stove and Gianfranco Ballerini refrigerators.
With it’s adjacent guest house, Gabbro comfortably welcomes 8-10 guests.
Guest Residence
Running the length of the central courtyard, the Guest Residence is a study in elegant simplicity. A long veranda leads from the courtyard to soft patina doors that welcome guests to spacious quarters. There is a large sitting area, fireplace, and bedroom. The bed and bath are very private and overlook the pool to the olive groves in the distance. |
