Out of more than 60 in the province of Siena, the Model Game Reserve at Castello di Casole was singled out as the superior leader for its thriving vegetation and animal populations, a testament to the remarkable work of Paolo Bagnoli and Yuri Montomoli, the two full-time gamekeepers. The estate’s hare, pheasant and deer populations are very healthy, while efforts to control the population of fox, nutria/coypu and wild boar have been extremely successful. In fact, local officials have been so impressed with the efforts, they have requested help repopulating in other parts of Siena.
